For 3 days in August the Nürburgring is transformed into a rolling open-air museum. Pre-war racing cars alongside hot Formula-1 racers and touring cars of the 80's. The International Automobile Federation championship race is a highlight of the programme.
Classical racing cars and classical racing at one of the best racing circuits worldwide: the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix is without doubt, one of the season's highlights. The event itself became a classic long ago, or even in fact a "Brand“ which is synonymous for the best in historical motor sport. The AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix with respectively well over 600 participants in the past years, is one of the largest oldtimer racing events in Europe, by which at the traditional Eifel racing circuit – the north loop as well as the modern Grand-Prix circuit - sport, touring and racing cars from at least eight different decades can be seen in plenty of very exciting races. The spectrum ranges from pre-war racing cars through to models from the 80's.
Formula-1 Champions
A programme highlight of the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix is the appearance of Formula-1 racing cars from the 60's and 70's which will go on start for the Grand Prix Masters. Once again, an International Automobile Federation championship race takes place – the FIA Lurani Trophy for Formula Junior Racing Cars. The formula school of the late 50's has thus once again been revived back to life. Sports car fans got their money's worth many times over. At the World Sportscar Masters, sport prototypes were seen as were driven at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from the middle of the 60's until the 70's. From the sports car era before that, there was the invitation race for two-seater racing cars and GTs for the years up to 1961.
Latin Lovers
A southern delicacy for the spectators is in the form of the Italian Historic Car Cup, which recalls the great times of the sports cars, sport prototypes and GTs of Italian fabrication. It's a revival of the classics Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia, Maserati and OSCA. Neither the touring cars nor GT-Sport left you still wanting more. The well loved races of the GT cars up til 1965 as well as the Revival German Racing Sport Championship – with its spectacular DRM cars til 1981 – again part of the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix programme
